 Performance Profile

Performance experience includes many different ensemble settings/ recording session work/ traditional session playing, orchestral playing, weddings and events.   The main creative outlet is currently a duo with fiddler player, Therese McInerney.  The duo is an artistic juxtaposition of classical and traditional Irish music. Their music is a blend of traditional Irish tunes and arrangement with Classical repertoire and style. Both members being accomplished vocalists, songs are featured often, arranged with intricate harmonies and instrumental interludes.

Teaching Profile

Experience teaching private flute and music theory lessons, beginners to advanced intermediate, ages 6 to 50+; lessons emphasized technique through challenging exercises, methods books and etudes, musicality through stylistic studies and theoretical understanding, and tone development thorough various warm-ups and listening exercises.  Has taught one on one lessons as well as group lessons, classes and sectionals.  Experience in preparing students for auditions into selective regional ensembles and acceptance into university degree programs.  Theory classes from preliminary to the university level.  Theory classes primarily for preparing students to sit theory exams.  

Teaching Experience

Classical Flute Tutor, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Univ. of Limerick, September 2017- present

  • One on one tuition for B.A. students. Emphasis on fostering students’ individual voice as a contemporary flutist through knowledge of repertoire, historical stylistic elements, technique, and performance.

  • Group instruction of a flute ensemble for both traditional and classical Flute players. Emphasis on intonation awareness, blending different flute sounds, and performing a variety of repertoire.

 

Music Theory Instructor, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Univ. of Limerick, September 2015-present

  • Theory classes/ private instruction for undergraduates and master’s Students. For students obtaining degrees in B.A. in Irish Music and Dance/B.A. in Voice and Dance/ Master’s in Community music.

  • Emphasis on making theory more practicable and accessible for Traditional musicians and vocalist/ dancers.
